The first edition of Burgas Marathon was born out of the belief that Burgas deserved a race to match its energy and character. The city’s long boulevards, sea views, and central squares offered the perfect stage. Supported by the Municipality of Burgas, local sports clubs, and passionate volunteers, the event quickly grew into one of the most anticipated running festivals in Bulgaria.
Growing Year by Year
From the very beginning, Burgas Marathon attracted both professional athletes and amateur runners. Its unique course, passing through the city center and along the Black Sea coast, created a mix of sporting challenge and breathtaking scenery. Each year, the event expanded – with more participants, more distances, and stronger international presence.
A Certified Course, a Global Stage
In 2025, the Burgas marathon race course reached a new milestone: certification by World Athletics and AIMS. This recognition placed Burgas alongside world-class marathon destinations and ensured that every runner’s result would count in official rankings.
